Wooden toys are often chosen over plastic, due to their durability.  These are made to last longer, and can be handed on down from one generation to the next.   Children can use their imagaination to play with them and have no end of fun.  These type of toys have the advantage of not becoming out of date (unlike the electronic and many plastic toys that are available).
